Build custom AI for serious operators.

Sureel AI is the implementation studio behind CannAgent and the other custom platforms in our portfolio. We hire engineers who ship, not engineers who write design docs about shipping. Real comp ranges, equity tracks for the first foundational hires, and client work that compounds.

What we are

  • Studio model. We take 3-5 engagements at a time, build platforms end-to-end, hand the operator a system that compounds without us.
  • Dogfood-first. Doug Waun (founder) runs two cannabis dispensaries on the platforms we ship — that scrutiny shapes how we build for every other client.
  • Direct. No 30-page pitch decks, no recruiting funnels. One discovery call, one quote, one hand-off.
  • Compounding. Patterns that ship for one client become the foundation for the next. The third engagement in a vertical is faster than the first.

AI Implementation Engineer

Own client-facing AI build engagements end-to-end — discovery, architecture, ship. We build custom platforms for serious operators (healthcare practices, government contractors, multi-location retail, cannabis dispensaries via CannAgent). Each engagement is a real production system, not a prototype.

Compensation

$160-220k base DOE + equity track. Senior staff hired with co-founder-equivalent equity for the first 3 hires.

Why this role exists

We're building an implementation studio for the post-LLM era. The first foundational hires shape how we engage clients, choose engagements, and grow. Doug Waun (founder, dogfooded the model on his own cannabis stores) is hiring this role direct. Mike Ion advises on the AI-engineering side as a consultant. Equity reflects the foundational nature of the role.

What you’d do

  • Lead 2-3 concurrent client engagements as the technical owner — discovery → architecture → build → cutover
  • Pair with Doug on the first 90 days of engagements; carry your own after
  • Make the call on stack within our standards (Next.js 16 App Router, TypeScript, Postgres + Drizzle, Anthropic SDK, Resend, Vercel)
  • Write the AI integration layer — prompt design, function calling, retrieval, eval harnesses
  • Ship to production weekly; clients see real progress every Friday
  • Help define the studio's engineering practices as we scale from 3 → 10 engineers

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years shipping production code at the senior IC level
  • Direct experience with LLM-powered features in production — not just chatbots, real workflows
  • Comfortable owning a customer relationship — not a hand-off-to-account-manager culture
  • Strong opinions on data + auth + deploy tradeoffs; willing to defend them on a demo call
  • Preference for dogfooded codebases over enterprise-PowerPoint architectures

What we’re NOT looking for

  • Engineers who want to optimize a single service to perfection — every engagement is greenfield
  • AI specialists with no production-shipping muscle
  • Folks who treat compliance (HIPAA, WSLCB, PCI) as a checkbox handed to a separate team

Senior Full-Stack Engineer

Build alongside the AI Implementation Engineer on client engagements. Heavier focus on the back-office surfaces (auth, billing, audit logs, role-based access) and integrations (Stripe, Anthropic, Resend, METRC, vendor APIs). The work compounds — each client unlocks reusable patterns the next client benefits from.

Compensation

$140-180k base DOE + equity. Profit-share on engagements you ship.

Why this role exists

Half of every Sureel AI engagement is the back-office layer that makes the AI part safely operable. Hiring an engineer who treats that layer as a craft, not a constraint, unlocks our throughput. This role pairs directly with the AI Implementation Engineer and reports to Doug.

What you’d do

  • Build the back-office layers of client AI platforms — auth, RBAC, audit logs, billing, compliance reporting
  • Own integrations to third-party services (payments, comms, traceability, regulator APIs)
  • Write the migration tooling that ports client data from legacy systems into our platforms
  • Pair on architecture decisions — write decision-records that future engagements can read
  • Help maintain the open-source-shaped pattern library Sureel AI publishes

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years shipping full-stack production code (React/Next, Postgres, TypeScript)
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one regulated-industry integration (HIPAA, PCI, WSLCB, or federal-contractor compliance)
  • Comfortable in the auth + audit + access-control layer — you've debugged a session issue at 11pm and not panicked
  • Direct-style communication, no jargon for jargon's sake

What we’re NOT looking for

  • Front-end-only specialists; this role requires deep DB + auth muscle
  • Engineers who treat integrations as 'just glue' — they're the surface that breaks first
  • Anyone who needs a 6-month roadmap to know what to ship next

Client Engagement Lead

Own the prospect → engagement → expand cycle for Sureel AI clients. Run discovery calls, scope custom AI engagements, write fixed-scope quotes, hand off cleanly to engineering, stay close through the first 90 days. CannAgent is one of our products; this role works the broader Sureel AI client mix.

Compensation

$130-170k base + commission tied to engagement value + equity track. Mid-six-figure OTE realistic on year 2 with strong client land.

Why this role exists

Doug carries the first wave of client conversations today. Hiring an engagement lead unlocks throughput and lets Doug focus on new product directions (CannAgent, future verticals). The right person becomes the de facto head-of-revenue for Sureel AI — equity reflects that trajectory.

What you’d do

  • Run prospect discovery calls — spec the AI engagement in operator language, not engineering jargon
  • Write fixed-scope quotes Sureel AI can defend in front of the engineer who'll build it
  • Hand off engagements to the engineering team with a written brief that doesn't require a re-discovery
  • Stay close to clients through the first 90 days — escalate friction back to engineering, escalate scope creep back to the client
  • Build the playbook for client-engagement at scale — we're 3 engagements today, 10 by end of year

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years in technical sales or client-services for B2B software, ideally custom-build studios or implementation consultancies
  • Comfortable on a discovery call without an SE — you can scope the AI part yourself well enough to commit
  • Track record of clean engineer-respecting hand-offs (engineers will reference-check this)
  • Located in or willing to be in Seattle 2 days/wk for client + team time

What we’re NOT looking for

  • Sales reps from product-led companies who've never sold a custom build
  • Anyone whose closing motion relies on 'unlimited revisions' or 'we'll figure it out together' framing
  • Engagement leads who hand off and disappear — Sureel AI is a continuous-relationship studio
Apply directly

What we won’t do

  • Buzzword job descriptions. No “rockstars,” no “ninjas,” no “unlimited PTO that nobody actually uses.” Real ranges + real equity terms upfront.
  • Ghost interviewing. Every applicant gets a yes or no within 10 business days, with a one-line reason. If we ghost you, send Doug a one-line email and he’ll fix it.
  • Take-home tests that take all weekend. The technical interview is a single 60-minute pair-programming call on a real engagement-shaped problem. We provide the context; you bring how you’d ship it.
